WE ARE A TEMPLE.
WE ARE A TEMPLE.
Now you are going too far, some of you will say. “ I am created as a human being”, you might say. I naturally cannot deny that, but the Bible says in first Corinthians 6:19 that our body is a temple for The holy spirit living inside of us. We can continue to read: “You are not your own. You were bought at a price: therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
How often do we think of our body as a temple? A temple is created for worshipping God. I have travelled quite a lot around the world and I have been inside many church buildings. Some of them look like magnificent works of art and it has taken a lot of years to complete the work. Lots of money has been spent on the building and the art and it might have been the most important job for many people. It is therefore very special when the apostle Paul is saying that our body is a temple. That means that the body is the house for The holy spirit within us. I have earlier been teaching that we are spirit, soul and body. (1.Thessalonians 5:23) The spirit is our new borne nature and it is pure and just and ready for heaven. Our soul consists of our thoughts, emotions, will and the subconsciousness. We cannot read this clearly in the Bible, but all counsellors seem to agree on that. Our body comes as a temple at the end.
In 1.Corinthians 15 we read about the difference between the spiritual body and the natural one. It says in verse 45 that the first Adam became a living being, but the last Adam became a life-giving spirit. It is clearly written that we have a corruptible body here on earth, but it will be changed when we are to enter the heavenly realm. Our body is worthy even if it is corruptible. We read in psalm 139 and the 14th verse that our body is made in a wonderful way. It describes how we are created and made in the womb of our mother and how God looks at us when we were in the womb of our mother.
Some people think of our bodies as something sinful and unclean and some are thinking about sex when they think about the body. The Bible calls our body a temple. Even sex is created by God, but the devil has perverted sex and made is unclean. God created it to be an expression of love between a man and his wife. It is also God’s way of making new children.
The Bible describes the body as the house where The holy spirit lives. I own the apartment where I live and I decide how the apartment should look and what kind of activities that should take place there and who should live there. I have the same ownership over my body. It is therefore totally wrong when children and even adults are to rape or any other kind of assault or injustice. That is like thieves coming in on a forbidden area. I decide who can touch my body and I decide what to eat and drink and how to exercise. The Bible says that we become one with the person we have intercourse with, but rape is not allowed even in marriage. It should be a mutual act of love.
How do we take care of a temple? We keep it clean and do everything we can to keep it in order. When there are some cracks in the wall, we repair them. That means that we should wash properly and eat and dring what is good for us. When something goes wrong, we repair it. Jesus says in 1.Peter 2:24 that He bore our sicknesses and in His stripes we are healed. If we could accept that as our truth, we should live in perfect health, but we might lack faith or the enemy makes lots of problems. Many people are also lacking knowledge. We should not allow sickness to destroy the temple. We must therefore do everything to get the temple repaired, in other words; to get well.
We read in Galatians 5:16 that we should walk in the Spirit. That is what should happen within the “walls” of the temple. We should live a Christ-like life. What do they do in a temple? They worship God. We should also worship God, be with Him, read His Word and share Him with others. I can hear some of you say that you have a family and a job and many other activities during the day. I know that the Lord wants us to take care of our family and go to work, but we can be led by The Holy Spirit in all we do. How do you meet other people? Do you meet them with a smile or with a sour face? Are you honest at work or are you cheating just a little thinking that no one will see it? Many are lying to the authorities about their taxes.
In Ephesians 2:10 it says that we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. That does not mean that we should run around being full of stress. Walking does not mean to run. He has prepared the deeds. We are often involved in activities that the Lord has not prepared for us and that can steal our energy.
If somebody enters the temple without permission, get them out. Do you remember when Jesus got so angry when people had made the temple to a market- place and not to a house of prayer?
MAY YOUR TEMPLE BE A PLACE FOR WORSHIP AND PRAYERS!
