The Woman, part 4
1st of May
HOW IS A WOMAN OF GOD?
I could have done this very simple by saying that everything written in the Bible is for a godly man and for a godly woman, but I have chosen to do it differently.
We can start in Matt. 22:37-39. There we read: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” This is the most important commandment and goes all the way back to the time when God spoke to Moses. I do believe that most of us have to admit that we do not love the Lord with all of our heart and mind. Many other things do tend to take the place of the Lord and we might even make them our priorities. I feel that everything that is more important than the Lord, is an idol. We have to get rid of the idols in our lives.
Do you love yourself?
We cannot love our neighbor more than we love ourselves. If we do not love ourselves, we do not love our neighbors either.
Women might have thought of themselves as very “Christian” when they tried to wipe themselves out. I have good news for you. It does’nt say in the Bible that we should wipe ourselves out. Jesus did’nt wipe Himself away. No, He fulfilled His Fathers plans for Him on Earth. He was obedient to His Father, knowing that the Father loved Him very much. You and I would not be saved if Jesus would have said that He was not worthy to carry the sins of the World.
Do you know your Father in Heaven? How much time do you spend with Him?
If you do not know Him well, you do not know THE ONE WHO IS LOVE.
We are created in love, by love. We are actually created by God. Love is therefore part of all who are created by Him. We cannot say that we have no love. The perfect love is in our new-borne spirit. It says in Gal. 5:16 that we should walk in the Spirit and in verse 22 it says that the first fruit of the Spirit is love.
A WOMAN OF GOD IS ONE FULL OF LOVE.
She should love God, herself, her husband if she has one and her children. I believe in that order. After that comes her sisters and brothers, friends and neighbors of different kind. We women must not forget to show love toward ourselves. I am not talking about satisfying the lust of the flesh. Why do’nt you start in the morning, asking yourself: “What can I do for myself to-day?” Maybe you should say no to some of the demands coming against you, maybe you should take a rest in the middle of the day. Do you take time to walk or exercise in any other way? Have you taken time to be with the Lord and asked Him what He wants you to do for yourself? God wants you to be well and happy. When I am fine, I have extra energy that can be used for others. Unsatisfied women are not a blessing neither to themselves nor to others.
A WOMAN OF GOD IS A WISE WOMAN.
In the Proverbs 19:14 it says that a prudent woman comes from the Lord. In Proverbs 14:1 it says that a wise woman builds her house, but the foolish one pulls it down with her own hands. The whole of chapter 31 in the Proverbs talks about a good wife. I recommend you to meditate on what King Solomon says about a divine wife. He says in verse 30 that a woman who fears the Lord should be praised. According to Proverbs 14:26 it says that there is a strong refuge in fearing the Lord and your children will be protected.
A WOMAN OF GOD IS ONE WHOS FEARS THE LORD.
In Gal. 5:22 we find the nine fruits of the Spirit. Love is mentioned first, then JOY. Many are refusing to become a Christian since they think it is boring. I get very sad when I hear this and wonder how I and my sisters and brothers portray Christ. Do we look so sad and serious? The answer is often: “Yes.” Our Spirit is always full of joy. In Neh.8:10 it says that the joy of our Lord is our strength. It does not say that we should watch impure films nor should we enjoy dirty jokes. In Job we read that the joy of the godless, lasts only for a moment.
In Psalm 30:11 it says that the Lord had put off David’s sackcloth and clothed him with gladness. Do you keep your sackcloth to the Lord? He wants you to be happy. In Psalm 100:2 it says that we should serve the Lord with gladness. In Is. 12:3 we read: “Therefore with joy you will draw water From the wells of salvation.” In Phil. 4:4 we read that we should rejoice in the Lord always, not once and a while, but always.
A WOMAN OF GOD IS A JOYFUL ONE.
Happiness is contagious and when you are happy, those around you will get happy. If you are negative and always complaining, you are creating a negative atmosphere. Do you think that your husband wants to come home if you meet him with a lot of worries? The answer is no. If we are constantly sad and serious, we have hidden Jesus in us. Let people see Him in us by smiling and giving a good laughter.
The next fruit we are coming to is PEACE. We can go back to Numbers 6:26. This is in the priestly blessing that Aaron and his sons should use when they blessed the people of Israel. It says: “The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.”
In Psalm 119, verse 165 it says that those who love the Law have great peace and nothing causes them to stumble. God gives peace and here it is mentioned in connection with the Word. I am now and then working in psychiatry and I get very sad since I am not allowed to give them the Word of God. I, myself, had a bad fear at one time and I do not know how I would have come out of it without the Word of God. It is like a sword that pierced the fear.
We can go to Is.32:17+18. It talks about righteousness and peace and that we have a habitation of peace. Rom. 8:6 says that to be carnally minded leads to death, but to be spiritually leads to life and peace. I will close by quoting Phil. 4:7 “The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” We women are experts in worrying without a reason. Maybe we should fill ourselves with more of the Word on Peace. God never creates unrest. He might strongly ask us to pray in a critical situation, but He comes with peace.
A WOMAN OF GOD IS FILLED WITH PEACE AND CREATES PEACE ON HER WAY.
The fourth of the fruits of the Spirit is: LONGSUFFERING. It says in Rom.3:25 that God has taken away our sins because of His forbearance. In Eph.4:2 it says that we should walk with longsuffering, bearing over with one another in love. In Col.3:12 it says that we should put on longsuffering. This is mentioned together with tender mercies, kindness, humility and meekness. We can choose to put it on as we choose to wear clothes. In 2.Tim.4:2 it says that when we rebuke, exhort and convince, we should do it with longsuffering and teaching. Maybe this is something we as mothers should remember. One who walks in longsuffering, is one who is slow in getting angry. You do not have to count to ten in order to avoid an outrage of anger.
A WOMAN OF GOD IS LONGSUFFERING.
FRIENDLINESS. You can look up the book of Ruth, the second chapter and verse 13. Ruth is talking to Boas and she said: “Let me find favor in your sight, my lord; for you have comforted me, and spoken kindly to your maidservant. In Hos.2:14 the Lord says: I will allure her, Will bring her into the wilderness, And speak comfort to her.” How we talk to a person, decides our future relationship. If I am accusative and unfriendly, the other person does not want to spend time with me. I want to spend time with those who are friendly to me. I can accept a lot of correction if it is said in friendliness and love.
A WOMAN OF GOD IS FRIENDLY.
