UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.
UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.
I will start by writing down a Norwegian psalm describing the love of God.
Love from God is like a sweet bride coming to us with her jewels. Open your fathom and come in the name of Jesus. The heaven brings it down.
Love from God is the greatest commandment, the only thing I know. Stay in love and you will have the peace of God. He Himself is love.
I will continue to take you to Matthew 22:34. In my Bible it has following headline: The two great commandments. It is written : “When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him, and saying: Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said to him: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang the Law and the prophets.
I believe that it is God’s unconditional love that makes Christianity most different from other religions. In all other religions you will find a lot of demands. You are told what you have to do in order to get peace, joy, love or any other good thing. In Christianity you hear that Jesus already has done it for free for us. We are saved by grace, at least our spirit is saved. (Ephesians 2:8) That doesn’t mean that God doesn’t care about the rest of our lives. The Bible is full of advice and directions for a successful Christian life. That is part of His love. If I as a mother shouldn’t tell my small children that it is dangerous to touch hot plates on the stove or the danger of crossing a street with lots of cars, I would not be a loving mother. I want to protect my children from danger. We had a time of what we call free upbringing. That has made many children insecure. How should they act? How should they act towards other people? We normally should learn that as children from our parents, in school and in church.
Real love shows us what is good for us and what is bad for us.
God has created us with a free will, and it is therefore important for parents to teach their children to make choices. In the beginning the children are too small, but when they are little older, you can ask them if they want a red or yellow trouser or dress. Sometimes we have to compromise with our own will because that is the best for maybe the rest of the family or the rest of the society. This we do in love for the others.
Control is not love. Many Christians have a need for controlling others. Some people think they know everything the best and they force their own solutions on everybody else. Wrong control is very close to witchcraft and that comes from the enemy and not from God. Remember James 4:7. It says that we should resist the devil and he will flee from us. Most of the time control comes through people. Remember the spirits behind control. We are supposed to resist the spirits. There are times when we have to brake the contact with people controlling us, but is should be done in a loving way. You must never forget to forgive them. You are following the recipe to the Bible then. (Matthew 6:14+15)
Jesus is the only person on earth being without sin, but He was the Son of God. I seriously believe that God is the only one being able to give us total unconditional love. We know that that the nature of Jesus has moved into our spirit when we received Jesus as our Saviour. We Christians will therefore have a possibility to practise unconditional love to a certain extent. We cannot carry all the sins of the world or die as the Saviour of the world. Jesus did that once and for all. It is finished.
The Lord has lately given me love for people that I earlier had a hard time loving. I have surprised myself. That shows me that God is so much more loving than me and He has much more grace.
I will show you a place in the Bible that I refer to often. It is from Romans 8:35. There we read that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ. Different kinds of need cannot do that nor fear or persecution. It doesn’t matter if we are naked, hungry or exposed to sword and danger. It cannot separate us from the love of Christ. You might read the next verses as well. As children of God we are loved no matter what kind of circumstances we face.
We human beings are easily governed by emotions, but they can fool us. Some people come to me and say that they cannot love, but I show them Romans 5:5 then. We read there that the love of God has been poured down into our hearts by The holy Spirit. We have not only received a few drops, but a lot of unconditional love.
What do we do with it? Have we actively received it? Do we identify with it? I wrote in the beginning that we should love others as ourselves. Do you love yourself? If you do not love yourself, you are blocking for God’s unconditional love towards you. Do you practice unconditional love towards others?
