The Soul, part 4

March 8th

Part 5 of Spirit, Soul and Body.

THE SOUL

THE SUBCONSCIOUS

This topic is not mentioned much in Christian literature, but is a central topic in psychology. I have read quite a bit of psychology and I know that not everything is in accordance with the Word of God. I have asked the Holy Spirit to be like a filter and take away what I am not supposed to use.

I have been allowed to keep my knowledge about the subconscious. Many say: “I cannot remember anything from this or that period of my life. It is so long ago.” Even so, you have experienced what you do not remember. Many unpleasant memories can be suppressed and pushed down in the subconscious. I know that a certain film, a song, another person, a book or a word can remind you of something you thought you had forgotten. God knows everything about us, both good and bad. Nothing is hidden from Him. I am glad that it is so, but many are trying to hide things from God. They will never succeed.

Some preachers do not want us to look at the past. They often refer to 2.Cor.5:17. It says: ” If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, behold all things have become new.” I mentioned this scripture in connection with our spirit. Yes, we do have a complete new nature in our spirit, but not in our soul. Confessed sins are totally washed away, but there can be many things in the subconscious that influence our everyday-life.

I meet many people who are upset about their own behavior in spite of the fact that they are reading the Bible and praying often. Others say: “I am feeding myself with the Word of Love and all the promises of God, but still, I am full of fear.” How come? The Word is alive and will always work, but I also know from many years of experience that people need help to be healed and delivered from old wounds in the soul.

I am totally dependent on the Holy Spirit when I minister to people. God is also using the Gifts of the Spirit that He has given me. It is not a minus to know how the soul is functioning, but it is first and foremost God who has taught me about the soul. He has created us as human beings and not as flying spirits.

I am always asking Jesus to become the Lord and Master over the subconscious. It should not be like a dark place where the devil can operate freely.

I asked God for a Bible-verse referring to the subconscious. Do you think I got one? Yes, He gave me Matt. 7:3. We read: “And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?” It continues to say that we must remove the plank from our own eye so that we can see clearly to remove the speck from our brother’s eye.

I have seen people helping others out of wrong motives. Maybe they are bound by rejection and have a desire to be liked and loved. Maybe they want people to become dependent on them. You should be helped yourself before you help others. Beside that, we should not become dependent on people, but God.

When I am counseling, I always ask Jesus to be present and direct the conversation. I am listening with my physical ear and at the same time I am listening for guidance from the Holy

Spirit. Some people talk freely, but others need a lot of questions.

When we come to a surgeon, he only operates one thing at a time. You are not getting an operation in the finger and the heart at the same time. God is the surgeon and He operates through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is leading the knife. I look upon myself as a knife – a tool in the hands of God.

It is written in John 15:2 that every branch that bears fruit, He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

In every operation one has to be careful in order not to cut too much nor too little. Sometimes we come together two or three times before God starts an operation. When we enter into a big wound of rejection, we might have to operate several times.

Before one operates, one takes a X-ray. I ask the Holy Spirit to do the same. I don’t want to see more or know more about a person than what is necessary for the operation.

Everybody is not called to operate in the subconscious. In psychology you must be a psychologist or psychiatrist. When you operate in the Spirit, you must be called, equipped and have the spiritual gifts for it. The operation can otherwise be a disaster. I have heard many sad stories about pastors who have counseled people without the necessary equipments. They might have been mistreated and that can cause great pain. Some people might be called proud and rebellious when they leave their church, but the cause might be wrong treatment. In extreme cases the bleeding might cause them to loose their faith. A tragedy!

What do you think a wounded person need? It will always need love and that has to be present before the operation, during the operation and in time of recovery.

The Holy Spirit knows how to remove demons, cleanse wounds, give the right medicine and knows how the wound will be healed. The Holy Spirit will often give anesthesia in order to make the operation less painful.

The Holy Spirit will not confess sins for you, nor forgive others for you., but help you to do so.

If a wound in your soul is caused by others, it is absolutely necessary to forgive those who caused the wound. If you have hurt yourself, forgive yourself. Read Matt. 6:14+15. There it is written that we will not be forgiven unless we forgive others.

Forgiving starts with the will and it is something we do in obedience to the Word. Our emotions might not forgive right away. We can forgive many times. Every time something negative pops up, forgive, again and again.

Many say: ” I cannot forgive.” That is correct. There are many times that I cannot forgive, but Jesus who lives inside of me, He can. He said, hanging on the Cross: ” Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” (Luk.23:34) This Word has helped me to forgive. I believe that forgiveness is the base for all healing of wounds in the soul and absolutely necessary for deliverance.

I will continue on this subject in the next chapter.

CONFESS YOUR SINS, RECEIVE FORGIVENESS AND GIVE IT TO OTHERS!!!!!!!!!
