The Soul, part 1

February 8th

THE SOUL

What is the Soul?

The soul consists of three parts:

THE WILL

THE MIND (our thoughts)

OUR EMOTIONS

These three parts are not to be found in one particular Bible-verse, but we are many with the same revelation.

The soul is created by God, but it is not perfect. It can be under dominion of three persons: yourself, the devil and God. Some people talk like the soul and the flesh is the same, but that is not so. I will shortly explain the FLESH.

THE FLESH IS OUR SINFUL NATURE. In the letter to the Galatians we read about the war between the flesh and the Spirit. In Gal. 5:17 it says that the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh.

Jesus says to His disciples: ” If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.” (Matt.16:24) That does not mean that you and I should hang on a cross. Jesus did a perfect job when He hung on the Cross. It means that we should say no to our sinful desires. We have to choose daily if we should obey our sinful nature or the nature of Jesus, living inside of us.

That does not mean that all our desires are sinful.

THE WILL

We all, Christians and Non-Christians, have to make many decisions daily. What should I wear to-day? Should I take the car or the bus to work? What should I make for dinner? I could write many pages about choices and decisions that we have to make. We could not choose between different alternatives if God had´nt given us a FREE WILL. All human beings have that ability inside of us.

When we look at a small child, we see clearly that the child has a will of its own. They are not capable of making important decisions. That ability will increase by age.

When I was growing up, my mother said to me that my will was in her pocket. Indirectly she said that I had no will of my own. After I grew up, God told me to forgive her and He would help me to take back what was stolen from me.

God is not forcing us to do anything. He is not a dictator, but God is LOVE. He wants to live in a love-relationship to His children. Jesus is inviting us by saying: ” Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.” (Matt.11:28) We cannot come to God if we are afraid of Him. I don`t run to a person standing with outstretched arms unless I trust that person 100%.

I will share with you a self-experienced story. It is about LIES and FEAR.

Some years ago, I had two small birds. We called them Elmer and Elvira. Elvira trusted us and she would enjoy sitting on our hand. Elmer was very afraid and any attempt to touch him would have felt as an assault. One day Elvira got sick and died. Elmer cried all day and called for his “wife”. I let him out of his cage and he flew around, looking for her. I got very sad on his behalf and with tears in my eyes I said: ” I wish that you would be a human so that I could explain to you that Elvira is no more. But I wish even more that you would not be so afraid. Because of your fear I cannot take you into my hand and comfort you. I want to do that so badly.” At that moment God spoke to me. He said: ” This is exactly how I feel. I cry because so many people have a wrong picture of Me. They are afraid of Me. They do not know how much I love them and how much I want to take them into My Hand and comfort them.”

The devil can tell us lies and create fear to stop us from making our most important decision.

Many children have been told lies about themselves. A person in authority can have told them that they cannot achieve anything in life. Their future does not look to be very promising. Maybe somebody had teased them for their looks. ALL LIES AND BAD EXPERIENCES CAN INFLUENCE OUR CHOICES IN THE FUTURE.

I could write a lot about cause and effect. I could also write a lot on the consequences of our decisions. Many are actually afraid of the responsibility of making a decision. The consequences should be considered before we make serious decisions.

I am so glad that we as Christians have Somebody helping us. We can come to our daddy in Heaven and ask Him for help. He will never force us to do anything against our own will. To-day I know that God is Good and wants the best for me. I can therefore say as Jesus in John 4:34: ” My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.” My daddy is watching over me so that I do´nt fall in any ditch nor walk in a wrong direction. My duty and privilege is to be with Him, ask Him for help and wait for the answer. I also have His Word. That is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Some people feel that they are not free to make decisions. They feel forced in one direction. God has sometimes shown me a demon, sitting on the will of a person. I am at that moment using a gift of the Spirit. If the person wants to be free, I pray for the person and command the demon to leave in the Name of Jesus. I will teach more on deliverance later.

My prayer for to-day is: YOUR WILL BE DONE ON EARTH, AS IT IS IN HEAVEN!!!
